Hardin County adopts annual bridge weight-limit postings, reduces limits on several spans

Hardin County approved its annual bridge weight-limit postings after staff reported results from this year’s inspections.
County staff told the board that inspections led to one new posting and several reductions: five bridges had limits reduced — in most cases dropping from 10 tons to 6 tons — and one bridge’s limit was reduced from 20 tons to 10. Two bridges were removed from the list compared with last year. The new posting will be on a dead-end O Avenue south of 170th (just north of the city of Alawson) and is a single‑truck‑at‑a‑time restriction; signs will indicate the limit and are enforceable once posted.
A motion to adopt resolution 2026-14 (bridge weight-limit postings) was moved, seconded and carried. Board members and staff noted the changes are enforceable once the signage is installed.
The action updates allowable vehicle weights on specified county spans to reflect current inspections and is intended to preserve bridge condition and protect public safety.
