Hardin County accepts $1.18 million federal TAP grant, approves supplemental Snyder engineering work

A presenter on the phone told the board the county was awarded roughly $1.18 million in federal TAP funds to extend the trail paving from Eldora toward Union. "The grant agreement from the DOT is regarding the additional ... I think 1.18 million," the presenter said, and said the grant requires acceptance of standard DOT conditions. She added a concurrent supplemental agreement with Snyder & Associates expands the firm’s design scope to match the extended paving limits and to add investigative work on Bridge 18, including hydraulic studies tied to debris removal and flood impacts.
Board members were told the supplemental engineering costs are covered by an existing project contingency and that the agreements do not obligate the county to provide local funding. After the presentation the board moved and seconded approval of the DOT federal-aid agreement (FAP CO42123 AT42) and the supplemental services agreement with Snyder & Associates; both motions carried on voice votes.
The board’s approvals allow engineers to proceed with the next phase of design work and for the county to accept the DOT conditions tied to the federal funds. County staff and the presenter encouraged board members to call or email with follow-up questions about scope or schedule.
Next steps: the engineering firm will incorporate the additional Bridge 18 hydraulic investigations into its scope and proceed toward final design; the agreements signed by the board permit the county to receive the DOT funds and continue project work.
