The Malden Planning Board on June 10 granted a special permit for a small acupuncture practice at 75 Pleasant Street after hearing from the applicant and planning staff.
Applicant Corey Shamblin told the board the proposed clinic would occupy about 300 square feet on the third floor, operate by appointment with limited hours (a cumulative two days per week), and generate minimal traffic or noise; he said he expects to open in August if the permit is granted. Alex Cidos, property manager for 75 Pleasant Street, spoke in support.
Planning Department staff reviewed the file and noted the use—classified as a licensed massage therapy salon—may be allowed by special permit in the central business district. Staff found the property complies with dimensional controls and recommended approval subject to standard conditions (work as per plans, minor plan modifications allowed). The board accepted that recommendation and voted to grant the permit, 9–0.
The decision allows the operator to provide state‑licensed acupuncture under the licensed massage therapy salon classification. The permit is subject to the board’s standard conditions and any building or occupancy permits required prior to operation.
