The Humboldt County Fire Safe Council recorded recent membership changes and next steps for committee renewal during its May 14 meeting in Eureka.
Staff said the Board of Supervisors made several recent appointments, including a new OES representative (Lieutenant Josh McCall) and a new Six Rivers National Forest representative (Jacqueline Olivera). Other updates included new Fire Chiefs' Association representatives and a noted replacement for the Van Duzen Watershed seat. Members were thanked for past service.
County staff reported an opportunity to extend County Coordination Team funding through October 2027; staff emphasized that the County Coordination Team operates as essentially one full‑time equivalent split among members and that CAL FIRE prevention funding passes through CFSC to County Coordinators.
On organizational continuity, staff noted that the HCFSC's BOS sunset date is October 5, 2026, and said a draft resolution to renew the committee for an additional five years will be prepared for the August meeting and then presented to the Board of Supervisors for adoption. Staff invited volunteers to help draft the resolution and suggested possible changes to committee seats.
A procedural motion was recorded to approve the February meeting minutes: Ali Freedlund moved to approve, Rod Mendes seconded, and the minutes state "All in favor." The meeting confirmed a quorum of 11 earlier in the agenda; the minutes do not list an individual roll‑call vote.
The council confirmed its next meeting for August 13, 2026, 2–4 p.m., at the UC Cooperative Extension Office (5630 S Broadway St., Eureka) or another location due to construction; the meeting adjourned at 3:41 p.m.
