Barbara Lazzari, chair of the commission, opened the discussion at the June 8 special meeting, saying the issue was added to the agenda by unanimous motion. Director Ray Bull said E-bikes are “becoming a nuisance in the park and could become a safety issue,” and distributed Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) e-bike safety guidelines for the commission to review. Bull also said he had spoken with Police Officer M. Rhodes, who recommended posting the signage at the park entrances.
The commission agreed to order the signs; staff will arrange purchase and installation. The action follows a reported increase in E-bike use at Blish Park and is intended to limit motorized vehicles on park paths and the lakefront.
The commission took no further formal action on enforcement at the meeting; the signage purchase was the step recorded in the minutes.
