Jean Swenson told the board she has been developing a community wildfire protection plan for about three years and described key elements she said make the plan suitable for grant applications.
"I work part-time for engineering. I have been working on a community wildfire protection plan...three years now," Swenson said, then described the plan's focus on water-gathering spots to enable helicopter operations, the need for signatures from local fire chiefs and the state forester, and the practical issue of including background material and scans for grant justification. She asked staff to place the final draft on an upcoming agenda so the board could review it and ask questions.
Swenson said she is collecting signatures and that the plan is effectively "final final" pending minor corrections (such as typographical errors and map title placement) and the state forester's signature. She noted that including the plan in county records makes grant applications more likely to succeed because projects can be identified in the plan.
Board members thanked Swenson and a staff member suggested placing the item on a future agenda once the final draft is ready. Swenson said she would follow up with IT about scans and make additional calls to the state forester's regional office to secure the required signature.
