Needham committee allocates $35,700 for Honeywell–Welsley intersection feasibility study

Staff said the TSC had about $48,000 remaining and that an additional ~$100,000 would be available July 1. After discussion about priorities, a motion to allocate $35,700 from the current TSC budget to pay for an intersection feasibility analysis at Honeywell and Welsley passed by voice vote. Committee members discussed potential coordination with neighboring jurisdictions and with a local hospital that owns parcels in the area.
Separately, the committee approved purchasing packet items marked in the RFP list (the packet’s red items), subject to normal accounting procedures and the July 1 funding inflow. Staff said some RFPs (e.g., crosswalk installations) are higher cost because they require ramps and are prioritized by volume and timing.
Next steps: staff will issue or update RFPs as needed, execute the intersection feasibility contract and report findings and any recommended capital projects to the committee. Funds and purchases will be reconciled in July’s accounting cycle.
