Farmingdale secures $3 million WIIA funds for water pollution controls; tower work advances

Village officials told the Board on Nov. 21 that the Incorporated Village of Farmingdale has been awarded $3,000,000 in Gov. Kathy Hochul’s WIIA budget for pollution-control equipment to be installed on the water system. Documents have been signed and submitted to the state; Philip Ross Industries was named to install the equipment and PWGC will handle New York State submittals for reimbursement and legal consulting services only.
Water-department work on the new tower is continuing: electrical wiring, controls and modem cable for the billing system and a phone line to the warehouse remain, the tank has been filled and is awaiting health-department sampling sign-off, and the generator installation was relocated to save over $55,000 in construction cost. The foundation and gas service are to be installed and National Grid will provide the gas service in the near term.
Cell providers are coordinating to remove old equipment from the old tank and install new equipment on the new tank, including an NCPD microwave installation, the board was told. Administrator/Clerk/Treasurer Brian Harty and water staff flagged that Philip Ross will proceed with engineering and health-department submittals to secure reimbursement under the WIIA grant.
Why it matters: a multi-million-dollar state award will fund pollution-control upgrades to the village water system, potentially improving water quality and system resiliency. The board’s actions and staff coordination determine timing for construction, state reimbursement and associated contract work.
