Mt. Vernon council approves $1.545 million in vouchers, buys fire-station alerting system

The Mt. Vernon City Council approved consolidated accounts payable totaling $1,545,041.65 and moved forward on several public-safety purchases at its March 17 meeting.
Council Member Mike Young moved to approve the consolidated vouchers in the amount of $1,545,041.65; Council Member Donte Moore seconded and the motion passed (Yeas: Moore, Young, Lewis; Absent: Botch, Gliosci). The vouchers package covers a range of city operations and capital items described in the meeting packet.
Acting City Manager Nathan McKenna recommended approval of a Bryx quote to upgrade the alerting system at all three Mt. Vernon fire stations. The Bryx system was the lower of two bids and the quote of $100,500 fits inside the General Corporate Capital Fund line-item budget of $105,000. "This will help cut down the time from when the call comes in to the 911 Dispatch Center to the time the fire department gets dispatched," Fire Chief Yenne said.
On the same agenda, the council granted staff permission to sign a nonbinding letter of intent for a Sutphen demo pumper that would replace two roughly 20-year-old apparatus in the department's fleet. McKenna said the LOI would reserve the unit for early summer delivery but would not obligate the city to the purchase until council approves the expenditure in the FY2025–26 budget.
The council approved the Bryx quote and the LOI authorization by unanimous recorded votes of those present. The council did not discuss alternative apparatus vendors during the meeting.
The council adjourned at 7:30 p.m. and will consider capital purchases, including any binding purchase order for the pumper, during the upcoming budget process.
