Mesquite ISD trustees elect officers and appoint Suzanne Hawk to vacant Place 2

The Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees reorganized its leadership and filled a board vacancy after a closed-session discussion.
When the board reconvened, trustees voted to elect Robert Seward as board president, Greg Everett as vice president and Kevin Carbo as secretary. The motion was moved, seconded and passed on a voice vote.
Trustee Everett described the committee process that led to a recommendation to appoint Suzanne Langston Hawk to fill the vacant Place 2 seat, citing her background in Mesquite-area schools and Region 10 experience. After a motion to appoint Hawk, trustees approved the appointment by voice vote and invited her to sign required documents and take the oath of office.
"Suzanne is going to be a servant of this community," Trustee Everett said, summarizing the committee's view of her fit for the board. Hawk then stood by the American flag and repeated the oath administered by district staff.
The appointment and officer elections were taken in open session after the board met in executive session under Texas Government Code sections 551.071 and 551.074 for governance matters. The board adjourned following the appointment.
