The Bow Town Board of Selectmen on June 9 authorized staff to transition water customers from monthly to quarterly billing once the billing system and notification processes are in place.
Board members discussed resident concerns about missed leak detection under quarterly bills. The town manager and staff said meters will still be read monthly and that the vendor (Styles) will provide training and beacon‑software monitoring to flag anomalies. The board agreed staff should provide several months' notice to customers and update contact information before changing billing cycles.
A motion "to authorize the town to move to quarterly billing when there is ready and appropriate to move forward that way" was made, seconded and approved. Select Woman Colby expressed a reservation about a leak occurring in month two of a quarter and missing the issue for an additional billing period; staff responded that monthly reads plus software notifications should allow timely detection and flexibility to remedy any unfair impacts on customers.
The board did not set an exact implementation date; staff said the change will take a couple of months to configure with the billing vendor and warrant producer and that customers will receive notice in each monthly statement until the change takes effect.
