Litchfield board accepts donations and gazebo after voter-approved renaming of Campbell field

The Litchfield School Board voted unanimously June 10 to accept recent donations and in-kind gifts for Campbell High School's baseball field, following a voter-approved renaming effort.

Robert Liry, who led the local fundraising push after voters approved renaming the field for Coach Jimmy Gorm, told the board the effort raised $3,400 and has spent approximately $3,293 on a plaque, a sign and installation. He said the group had secured several significant in-kind contributions: Tim's Turf donated materials for the signage area and Reed's Ferry of Hudson donated an entire gazebo. Liry said the campaign presently has about $333 in cash on hand plus a separate $500 donation from the veterans group, leaving roughly $800 in combined funds.

The board discussed whether the gazebo gift had already been formally accepted by the district; trustees said they would process the paperwork for acceptance now that the sign, plaque and gazebo are in place. Mr. Dit moved to accept the donations related to the Campbell field; Mr. Peoples seconded the motion, and the vote carried 3-0.

Board members thanked Liry and the many volunteers who worked on the effort and noted opportunities to address additional field improvements in the future. The board advised Liry to submit receipts and donation paperwork to the district clerk for formal acceptance and recordkeeping.

The board will include the donated gazebo, sign and plaque in district property records once the business office completes the acceptance paperwork. No further action was taken at the meeting beyond the acceptance vote.
