The Bow Town Board of Selectmen voted June 9 to authorize encumbrances for facilities repairs and additional road salt as staff finalize year‑end costs.
Finance Director Cheryl Linda told the board the town was about $60,000 higher than earlier estimates and said the remaining available amount "is 165 up from 106," attributing the change to timing differences in payroll and payables. She identified departmental requests totaling roughly $15,000–$20,000 that staff would like to encumber into this fiscal year so departments have room next year, including a police sign‑on bonus (timing-dependent), gutters (about $10,000) and lighting (about $4,000).
Following that presentation, a selectman moved to "authorize David to accept quotes for up to $14,000 for gutters and lighting projects" and to encumber the funds this fiscal year if acceptable quotes were obtained in time. The motion was seconded and approved by the board.
Later in the meeting the board debated available surplus and authorized public works to purchase additional road salt. A motion passed to "authorize Tim to purchase an additional $25,000 worth of salt provided he can get a price that he thinks is prudent and can get it encumbered by year end." Board members discussed surplus levels and procurement timing before the unanimous voice vote.
The actions taken are procedural budget decisions to reserve funds and do not by themselves change appropriations beyond the existing budget; staff indicated some purchases will depend on vendor availability and start dates. The board recorded unanimous approval on the motions.
