Wayne County authorizes $100,000 USDA Local Food grant application and $18,000 DCNR planning request

The Wayne County Commissioners voted unanimously June 4 to pursue two grants aimed at supporting local food and recreation planning.
Commissioner James Shook moved, and Commissioner Jocelyn Cramer seconded, authorization for the county to submit a $100,000 application to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Services Local Food Promotion Program and to name Vicky J. Botjer, grant manager, as the Authorized Organization Representative. The motion passed without objection.
The board then, on motions led by Commissioner Brian W. Smith and seconded by Commissioner Shook, unanimously approved a Letter of Verification committing $26,700 in cost share and executed the required Evidence of Critical Infrastructure for the USDA application.
Commissioner Smith also moved, and the board approved, authorization for Botjer to prepare an $18,000 Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) PEER grant application to evaluate the county’s recreation management and planning needs.
The commissioners did not debate the grant amounts at length during the meeting; motions were approved as part of routine business. The approvals allow county staff to complete and submit the grant applications and to provide the documentation required by the granting agencies.
