Council flags fireworks-law tweaks and vows crackdown on nonresident dumpster dumping

“Fireworks are legal July 1 through 2 a.m. on the morning of the 5th… It’s something we can look at,” the chair (S2) said, urging staff and legislators to review the current rules.
The chair also warned that nonresidents placing garbage in city dumpsters has become a serious problem and that such behavior can be prosecuted as theft of services under state code. The council said it will work with the sheriff’s office, the city attorney and staff to enforce the law and encouraged residents to document incidents with photos.
No ordinance changes or enforcement actions were adopted at the meeting; the council directed staff and legal counsel to pursue enforcement options and to place potential ordinance revisions on a future legislative agenda.
