The Jacksonville City Council unanimously confirmed Kyle Chumley as deputy chief of the Jacksonville Police Department and presented longtime officer Rodney Cox with a 30‑year service plaque.
Alderman Speed introduced the confirmation resolution and council members voted yes on the roll call. The council discussed whether a separate retirement ceremony for Cox would be held; members praised Cox’s length of service and institutional knowledge. The chief who spoke during the presentation said Chumley had been a detective for about 16 years, ‘‘he has done a phenomenal job’’ leading investigative work and was selected to fill the deputy chief post (Clerk roll call, motion and vote recorded).
After the formal confirmation, Chumley’s wife and family joined him at the dais for a badge presentation. Chumley offered brief remarks thanking the council and department, saying he looked forward to serving in the new role and expressing appreciation for the support of fellow officers and his family. The council’s vote was unanimous.
The action was procedural confirmation by the council; the administration did not discuss changes to department budgets or duties tied to the appointment during the meeting. The council adjourned following remaining agenda business.
