Board approves superintendent's recommendation to expel student E007 for up to two semesters

The Gilmer County Board of Education voted to accept the superintendent's recommendation to expel student E007 (2025/2026) for no more than two consecutive semesters and place the student in an Alternative Learning Center (ALC) placement.

The superintendent told the board: "I recommend to the board of education during this hearing process to expel student E007 202526 for no more than two consecutive semesters and place that student in the ALC program in Gilmer County Board office and if that student's ... behavior does not improve due to habitual violation of school rules and sexual misconduct."

The recommendation included regular reviews every nine weeks of attendance and academic progress, and set criteria under which the superintendent could lessen the expulsion or change placement: the student maintains a 2.0 GPA, is not chronically absent, and has no further discipline infractions. Board members moved, seconded and carried the motion by voice vote.

Board and superintendent comments to the student clarified practical expectations: "That means that you'll be placed here ... You'll need to keep your grades up. You'll need to not have any behavior infractions," the superintendent said, later warning that continued infractions would result in placement at the ALC after-school program at the career center.

The hearing record shows the board held an executive session under West Virginia Code 6-9A-4B before considering the recommendation. The expulsion hearing was adjourned after the board's action; no further penalties or dates beyond the two-semester cap were specified in the record.
