Caribou County authorizes EMS vehicle purchase and fire pumper; ambulance rate increase to be publicly noticed

Caribou County commissioners on May 26 authorized two equipment purchases for emergency services and heard presentation of proposed ambulance-rate changes that will require public notice.
Public Safety Director Eric Hobson told the board the county’s ambulance fees have not been raised in some time and presented proposed new rates. Because the aggregate increase would exceed 3 percent, Hobson said the board must publish the proposed changes and hold a public hearing before adopting new fees.
Hobson also reported the county’s request for $525,000 for a Black Mountain communications repeater is included in a House funding bill under consideration for budget year 2027.
On equipment, the board authorized spending of up to $45,000 from the ambulance fund to buy a replacement EMS vehicle. The board also approved using $29,000 from capital outlay to purchase a used 2000 Pierce Saber pumper truck to serve the new Grace fire station. Both motions were made by Commissioner Bryce Somsen and seconded by Commissioner Marty McCullough; the transcript records the motions as passing but does not list a roll-call tally.
County staff said they obtained state-bid pricing and other vendor quotes for replacement vehicles and advised a test drive prior to final purchase. The next procedural steps are publication of a notice of public hearing for ambulance rates and administrative processing of the approved equipment purchases.
