Dania Beach public‑safety officials briefed the City Commission on June 9 about a coordinated interagency response that broke up a planned juvenile "takeover" at the Point shopping district.
Captain Jason Terala said local and regional agencies monitored social media for weeks and developed an incident action plan with the Broward Sheriff's Office, Hollywood Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol to prevent large‑scale disturbances, criminal activity and disruptions to businesses. The operation deployed 24 Broward Sheriff's deputies, approximately 15 Hollywood officers in their jurisdiction and a dozen FHP troopers for traffic and crowd management.
"Due to the proactive deployment of our personnel, the high visibility patrol, our coordinated communication between the agencies ... we successfully prevented any large‑scale mob activity," Captain Terala said. The operation led to eight arrests (seven by BSO and one by Hollywood PD); officers also made outreach calls to parents in lieu of some arrests, officials said.
Officials emphasized the response prioritized safety and keeping businesses open. No large commercial disruptions or formal complaints from businesses were reported, according to Terala. The commission thanked law enforcement and partner agencies for the coordinated plan.
