Council approves liquor license and nonprofit gambling premises permit for new Skyline Social and Games

The Apple Valley City Council on June 11 approved an on-sale intoxicating liquor license (including Sunday sales) for SS and G Apple Valley Inc, which will operate as Skyline Social and Games, and separately approved a city sign-off on a state premises permit that would allow the Apple Valley Burnsville Hockey Association to conduct lawful gambling at the same establishment.

City staff (Christina, speaker 4) told council the liquor license application had been duly noticed and reviewed by city staff and the police department with no concerns. The council opened a public hearing for the liquor license; no members of the public addressed the hearing. The council then adopted a resolution to issue the on-sale intoxicating liquor license and associated special license for Sunday sales.

Christina also explained the premises permit application: final approval for lawful gambling rests with the state gambling control board, but the state requires a local sign-off first. Staff reported routine review with no local concerns and recommended approval to facilitate the nonprofit’s fundraising activities.

The motion to approve the liquor license was made by Councilmember Bridal and seconded by Councilmember Hebert. The motion to approve the city sign-off on the premises permit was moved by Councilmember Bergman and seconded by Councilmember Melander; both motions carried without objection.

City staff noted that final state approval for the gambling permit is required before gaming can commence at the business.
