Apple Valley council approves 60th Freedom Days schedule, signage for late June–July events

The Apple Valley City Council on June 11 voted unanimously to accept the city’s Freedom Days celebration schedule and authorize placement of event signage for the city’s 60th-anniversary festivities.
Volunteer committee members presented the multi-day lineup and thanked the City of Apple Valley, the American Legion and local sponsors for longstanding support. Michelle Thames, a member of the Freedom Days volunteer committee, said the committee has "collectively over 100 years of experience" and highlighted the car show, family events and fireworks slated for late June and early July.
The schedule approved by council includes a car show on Friday, June 26, at the American Legion (5–9 p.m.), a "Casting with the Cops" youth event on July 1, a revived kitty parade on July 3 that will start at Scott Islands and travel to Johnny Kate Park (pre-registration required), a multi-day carnival around July 2–4 (times to be finalized), a fun run hosted by parks and recreation on the morning of July 4, a 1:00 p.m. July 4 parade, a pre-fireworks party beginning at 6:00 p.m., and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. with a rain date of July 5.
Mayor (speaker 1) and councilmembers praised the volunteer effort and city staff support; councilmember Bergman asked about historical entry credentials used to access parade staging areas, to which staff and volunteers responded arrangements would be made for participant access. The council asked volunteers to stay in communication with neighbors as preparations proceed.
The council’s motion to accept the schedule and authorize signage was made by Councilmember Grama and seconded by Councilmember Bergman; the vote was unanimous.
The decision authorizes organizers to proceed with the schedule and signage placement; logistical details such as specific carnival times and parking assignments will be finalized by organizers in coordination with city staff and public safety partners.
