Committee pilots water-consumption app in beta, asks for mobile alerts

The Farmers Branch Sustainability Committee on June 10 agreed to pilot a beta water-consumption application that shows household water use and hourly "zero-flow" intervals, and asked staff to pursue mobile improvements and alerting.
A committee member reported that the beta app is functioning but currently presents data in one-hour intervals with roughly a one-day delay; the member said the interface worked on a laptop and that a mobile-optimized display or app-based alerts would improve usability for residents who rely on phones. "It shows your water consumption now... it was pretty good. If they can get it scaled to the phone, it'll be a lot," the member said.
Members discussed wanting near-real-time alerts (for example, a phone notification if the system detects large flows when a house is empty) to help detect leaks and stop water loss. Several committee members volunteered to serve as pilot users and test the interface and functionality on their homes while staff refines scaling and latency.
Alex noted the app is in beta and that the pilot will help staff identify issues such as mobile responsiveness, data delay and alert thresholds. No formal policy changes or mandates were made; the committee framed the pilot as an internal test to inform potential public rollout and outreach.
