The Watertown Commission on Aging voted to approve its April 16 minutes with a correction and used its May 21 meeting to request clearer onboarding and packet materials.
Melanie Flaherty, chair, presided over the vote on the April 16 minutes after members noted an error: Cindy Blanchard’s name had been listed as vice chair in the earlier minutes. A member requested the record be corrected to show Wilma Hughes as vice chair; the minutes were approved with one abstention.
Commissioners also asked that the senior center director’s written report (previously provided by Brooke Way) be included in the meeting packet and posted online so absent members can review it. Members discussed difficulties locating reports after meetings and asked staff to make the packet and supporting reports more consistently available.
Under old business, Michael recommended a formal agenda item to review and update the commission’s bylaws and onboarding materials. Janet was asked to review the commission’s processes and prepare a concise mission/handout so new members understand their role and expectations.
A member of the public urged the commission to help notify residents about the annual May budget referendum, saying many older residents do not receive or consult online notices. Commissioners noted town notification systems exist but said some residents report not getting alerts; they discussed messaging options.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 following a motion that was seconded and approved.
