Environmental Advisory Council reappoints chair, adopts five priorities for 2026

Susan Royer was reappointed chair of the Whitpain Township Environmental Advisory Council and Ruth Chang was appointed vice chair for 2026, the council reported at its Jan. 14 meeting.
The EAC unanimously adopted five priorities for 2026: clean and renewable energy practices; expanding the Sustainable Property Program; youth environmental engagement; public awareness of environmental issues; and research and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on environmental actions. Chair Royer said the council shared its 2025 accomplishments with the Board of Supervisors and posted them on the township website.
Assistant Township Manager David Mrochko provided an update on deer management, reporting that "a total of 13 deer were taken across early and late seasons," and noting the early season hunt was significantly more successful. Staff will review lessons learned from the recent seasons, he said.
The council approved its December 10, 2025 minutes after a motion by Zbigniew Bieniaszewski and a second by Ruth Chang; the motion passed with no additional discussion. The transcript records the reappointments of Royer and Chang but does not show a formal roll-call motion for those nominations.
Supervisor Liaison Sara Selverian relayed the Board of Supervisors' interests to the EAC, including participation in the Ready for 100 initiative, open-space priorities, and conducting a plastic bag poll. Selverian also said the township is seeking new EAC members and alternates; Assistant Township Manager Mrochko said the Solicitor is reviewing ordinance language related to alternate members.
The council adjourned after concluding new-business discussion and scheduling follow-ups on prioritized items.
