Norwalk library board raises questions about who will pay for ‘Eagles’ parking for patrons

During its June 11 meeting the Norwalk Public Library Board discussed a temporary arrangement for patron parking in the Eagles lot after library parking capacity was exceeded.
Staff reported they have been in discussions with the Eagles board and the city and that the Eagles are preparing a contract for the library to use the lot. A board member said they had used the lot when library lots were full and described the arrangement as workable pending a formal contract.
Several members questioned who should bear the cost. One board member noted that tenants in a nearby city building also use the Eagles lot and the city collects rent from those tenants; the member asked whether the city could contribute toward the library’s parking costs. Another board member said the city previously shifted parking expenses onto the library budget without consultation and said the matter should be revisited with the city or parking authority.
Board members said the Eagles indicated the ask might be about $1,800 for roughly a four‑year period (board described that figure as approximate). The board agreed to revisit the issue and asked staff to continue negotiating contract language and to seek clarification about whether any portion of tenant rent revenue should offset the library’s payments.
No formal vote was taken on the parking arrangement at the meeting.
