Board reviews design and funding strategy for Park View veterans memorial; district to cover site work

Architect Kurt presented a revised site plan to the Mukwonago School District board for a Veterans Memorial at the Park View Middle School site. The concept places a primary granite monument and six branch-specific pillars along an expanded, colored-concrete walkway between Veterans Way and Highway 83.
Kurt said earlier estimates of about $550,000 have been refined to roughly $490,000. He described the cost split as roughly half for the monument structures and half for site work (expanded pathway, colored concrete, foundations and lighting). Veterans organizations — the American Legion and VFW — are expected to fund the monument structures and are pursuing a fundraising plan tied to a $250,000 target; Kurt said the district will take responsibility for the site and flat-work portion and will cover that cost within existing project savings and bid refinements.
The plan requires village approvals and a plan-commission hearing; Kurt said the veterans group aims to have fundraising complete by September 2027 to align monument procurement with the district’s construction schedule. Board members asked whether the village would contribute any funds and how fundraising is progressing; Kurt said fundraising connections are underway but that he had not received a dollar-status update at the time of the presentation.
