At 362 East Deerfield Road, applicant Walter Ochoa said he moved four trucks home to prevent theft; neighbors and the HOA president, Richard Dice, opposed the request and provided a signed petition. Residents described concerns about children, road damage and an increase from the current number of trucks. Staff said the ordinance did not specifically prohibit consideration of the variance, but the board voted to deny the request.
A second similar request at 125 Clyde Road from Eric and Hannah Wright drew complaints that a tractor trailer and flatbed were unsightly and harmful to neighborhood character. The board discussed the possibility of a privacy fence as a compromise but ultimately denied the variance. Several speakers referenced ongoing code enforcement activity and prior communication with Commissioner Floyd and county staff about truck parking complaints.
Planning staff and board members emphasized that enforcement and ordinance interpretation would proceed through Development Services and code enforcement channels, and that variances must conform to county regulations and neighborhood covenants where applicable.
