Planning commission approves minutes and 2026 schedule; forestry setback measurement to return in January

At its Dec. 11 meeting the Emigration Canyon Planning Commission unanimously approved the Oct. 9 and Nov. 13, 2025 minutes and adopted its 2026 meeting schedule; commissioners asked legal counsel to consult the City Council about whether forestry zone setbacks should be measured from road edge or center line and placed the item on the Jan. 8 agenda.
The Emigration Canyon Planning Commission convened its business meeting at about 9:55 a.m. on Dec. 11, 2025, and approved prior meeting minutes and its 2026 meeting schedule.
Commissioner Dale Berreth moved (seconded by Commissioner Jim Karkut) to approve the Oct. 9, 2025 meeting minutes with amendments; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Andrew Wallace moved (seconded by Commissioner Jim Karkut) to approve the Nov. 13, 2025 minutes with amendments; that motion also passed unanimously. The commission then approved the 2026 Planning Commission schedule following a motion by Commissioner Berreth and a second by Commissioner Karkut.
In "Other Business," commissioners discussed Forestry zone 19.24 and whether the setback table should be applied across zoning chapters and whether all setbacks should be measured from a public or private right‑of‑way. The commission requested that legal counsel consult with the Emigration Canyon City Council and placed the matter on the Jan. 8 agenda for further discussion.
The commission also noted two commissioner appointments that expire March 1; Commissioners Karkut and Geroux expressed interest in reappointment. Chair and vice chair elections are scheduled in January; the current chair and vice chair indicated they intend to remain in their roles. The meeting adjourned at 10:37 a.m.
