Casper Senior Center seeks Evansville help to restore food distribution and expand senior services

Kim Perez, event coordinator and outreach director for the Casper Senior Center, asked the council on June 9 for help publicizing an outreach event and described a plan to restore local food distribution and expand services for seniors in Evansville.
Perez told the council the center lists 135 registered Evansville members but serves only a fraction of them locally; the center has secured a sponsor to pay for an outreach barbecue and is not asking the town for funding. She said the center has formed a partnership with Food Bank of the Rockies (and a national food bank partner) to bring commodity boxes to Evansville and aims to re-open a distribution site by September open to all residents.
Perez also described plans to offer monthly cybersecurity and technology classes, weekly craft sessions, and weekly wellness checks (blood-pressure and general welfare checks) through partnerships with local care facilities and providers. She said staff from one regional provider will run a weekly wellness clinic in Evansville as the center rebuilds previous services that were cut.
The council expressed support and asked staff to help publicize the event and to coordinate scheduling and location. Perez said she will be present at least one day a week to help organize outreach and gather feedback from local seniors.
