Austin ISD PFC to consider conflict-of-interest policy after member request

Secretary Boswell raised a governance concern after the board's business on June 11, asking that the corporation confirm whether members had signed conflict-of-interest statements and suggesting the issue be added to a future agenda.
Summer Greathouse, the PFC's legal counsel, responded that the board could address the matter through a policy rather than amending bylaws. "What I would recommend doing is that we develop a policy and not amend your bylaws so that we can do it through a policy that would be approved by this board and would not need any other approvals," Greathouse said, and offered to work with the board to draft that policy.
Board members agreed to pursue the item as a future agenda matter. No formal action was taken at the June 11 meeting; Greathouse's suggested policy route would keep the matter under the board's direct control and allow staff and counsel to make future adjustments if needed.
