Santa Fe County proclaims June 2026 LGBTQIA2S+ Pride Month

The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners on June 9 unanimously approved a proclamation designating June 2026 as LGBTQIA2S+ Pride Month.
Commissioners Camila Bamante and Lisa Kakari Stone read the proclamation and framed it as a formal reaffirmation of dignity and safety for LGBTQIA2S+ residents. Kevin Bowen, executive director of the Human Rights Alliance, told commissioners the county supports the annual Pride celebration with lodging-tax and security grants and that organizers expect about 14,000 attendees at the June 27 event. "We produce the annual Pride celebration," Bowen said, "and the county's support through grants is important to making it safe and accessible."
Commissioner Bamante highlighted county efforts to expand youth behavioral services and described a pending ICIP submittal for a Pride center in Santa Fe. Commissioners noted local data showing higher rates of gender- and sexual-identity diversity among youth and the connections between community support and mental-health outcomes. The board then moved and seconded the proclamation and adopted it by unanimous voice vote.
The proclamation recognizes the historical contributions of LGBTQIA2S+ residents, affirms county commitment to civil rights, and pledges continued support for safety and inclusion. The resolution is formalized in the minutes and will be available on the county's website.
