Glenrock Main Street board members Candy Bendetta and Jeie Bour told the Town Council they want the town—ehind two public‑history projects: a nine‑foot bronze veterans memorial and a multi‑panel historical signage program.
"We received $40,000 from Converse County Tourism and that will be a good start," Jeie Bour said, noting the veterans memorial fund would be supplemented by local fundraising, pavers and pillar donations and additional county grant requests. The group asked council to consider two possible sites — the corner of Third and Birch or Third and Cedar — so designers can plan the footprint, granite work and surrounding landscaping.
Bendetta and Bour also presented near‑final drafts for 10 two‑sided interpretive signs to be sited along the walking path and at Kimble Park. Bour said the project has received a $226,000 grant from Converse County Tourism to cover design and installation; the signs are 36 by 30 inches, weatherproof and will include maps and historical panels. The group noted contractors and a fabricator are ready and that utility locates must be refreshed before installation.
Council members asked logistical questions about site selection, locates and funding. Bendetta said the group has identified a focus group and a sculptor who has worked on memorials in Cheyenne and other places and can visit Glenrock to consult with the council and the Main Street committee.
Next steps: Main Street asked the council to consider city property at an upcoming workshop (Aug. 5) and to allow its focus group to coordinate with staff so the group can finalize site selection and proceed with design and fundraising.
