Town staff told the Dolores Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 4 that the town will receive the first installment of a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant of $184,000 to fund a combined bike and skate park.
"We're getting our first installment of um the GOCO grant for the bike park . . . it's 184k," the Chair said while summarizing the funding and schedule. Staff said the town will not front the full amount; GOCO will pay the town for part of the work and the town will pay GOCO up front and be reimbursed according to the grant agreement.
Construction timing provided by staff called for late June or early July start dates, with overall completion no later than Oct. 1. The Lost Canyon Bike and Skate Club is leading local fundraising and aims to raise approximately $150,000 to complete the required match for the project.
Commissioners discussed sequencing for the skate park (6'8 weeks), the bike park (three to four weeks) and the pump track (to follow), and acknowledged that match fundraising would include community events and donations. No formal vote was required during the meeting; staff reported the grant paperwork and next steps would be handled administratively.
