Supervisors back resolution to seek funding for Guard's Mill Pond restoration

The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors voted to advance a resolution supporting restoration of Guard's Mill Pond and to seek partner resolutions and funding support from neighboring jurisdictions and state legislators.

Board members described community outreach on the pond and said they had been contacted by local residents and stakeholders, including Rob Whitman, Hillary Kent and Karen Barnes, who requested county support for restoring the pond to a previously discussed option (referred to in the discussion as "option four"). Supervisors said they would ask West Morland to adopt a similar resolution and would seek the assistance of Delegate Kent and Senator Stewart to pursue funding.

A supervisor moved to put the resolution forward and a second was recorded; the board voted to approve moving forward with the resolution. Supervisors also directed Mr. Tadlock to reach out to West Morland staff so that officials there could consider joining the effort and to coordinate with the Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) and other technical representatives who had previously consulted with county staff.
