City awards $135,000 contract to replace seven HVAC units at police, fire and golf facilities

Public Works Director Harper Gandhi told the council that the project is part of the city’s deferred‑maintenance program. The work includes four units at the Madera Police Department (dispatch center, briefing area and administrative areas), one unit at Fire Station 57 (living quarters) and two banquet facility units at the Madera Municipal Golf Course. The project went to bid with significant outreach; the low responsive bidder was HUK Corporation with a bid of $135,000.
Gandhi said the project is fully funded from this year’s adopted budget: $60,000 from the facility deferred‑maintenance fund for PD, $30,000 from the same fund for the fire station and $51,000 from the golf course capital fund. The total allocated across those funds was $141,000, leaving contingency for related costs. Council adopted a resolution awarding the contract, authorized the city manager to execute contract documents and made a CEQA Class 1 exemption finding for replacement of existing mechanical equipment.
Outcome: Contract awarded to HUK Corporation for $135,000 and authorized for execution; staff will manage vendor contract and project execution under public‑works procurement rules.
