Hilliard staff outline $400,000 renovations to add office space and an ADA restroom

HILLIARD, Ohio ' On June 8, 2026, facilities staff briefed the Hilliard City Council Committee of the Whole on planned renovations intended to create more office space within city hall and the operations/administrative building. Council previously approved $400,000 for the 2026 projects, and staff said bidding closes tomorrow.
At the meeting, Mr. Kryler said the city's growth in staff has created space pressure and that the scope is intentionally modest. In the city hall footprint, staff propose converting one of two restrooms adjacent to the council chambers into office space while upgrading the remaining restroom to meet ADA and family-accessible standards. "One of those restrooms actually get converted into office space," Kryler said, and the retained restroom would be brought up to ADA accessibility.
Kryler said the changes will create a staff-only connection between the building department and community development, concentrating public access through the main entrance while providing staff entrances separate from public circulation. At the operations/administrative building, he said one larger office will be split to create three smaller offices and additional usable workspace.
Kryler confirmed the city set aside $400,000 for the work and said staff hope bids come in under that amount; bidding closes tomorrow. When asked how many public restrooms would remain, he said public restrooms would go from four to three and that additional staff restrooms exist elsewhere in the buildings.
Next steps: Staff will review bids once the solicitation closes and return with a recommendation; no further action or contract award was taken at the Committee of the Whole meeting.
