Reidsville — The Reidsville City Council voted June 9 to raise compensation for local ABC board members from $50 per meeting to $100 per meeting at the request of the ABC board representative.
Melvin Hill, representing the Reidsville ABC board, outlined the board’s responsibilities under North Carolina General Statute 18B‑702 and provided an FY2026–27 operating overview for the ABC board. Hill said the ABC system projects roughly $3,438,000 in annual sales and manages distributions to local beneficiaries under procedures established in 1965. He said compensation across the state ranges up to $150 per meeting and that Reidsville’s $50 per meeting was reduced during 2021; the board requested a mid‑range level of $100 to attract and retain qualified volunteers.
Councilmembers speaking supported the request, noting the board operates a highly regulated business with significant annual sales and responsibilities including budgets, audits and personnel decisions. A motion to increase board pay to $100 was made, seconded and approved by voice vote (no roll‑call tally recorded).
Why it matters: although the dollar amount is modest for the city’s finances, the increase is intended to support governance and continuity of an entity that oversees a regulated retail operation and distributes revenues to local governments and programs.
