Melvin Hill, representing the ABC board, presented the board’s proposed FY2026–27 operating figures and later returned to request a compensation increase for board members.
Hill said the ABC board projects annual sales around $3,438,000 with taxes of roughly $790,000 and cost of goods sold at $1,822,000, leaving a gross profit on sales of about $825,300. After operating expenses, mortgage payment and distributions, Hill described the annual distribution amounts the board estimates for local recipients (city general fund, law enforcement, alcohol education, county library and local hospital). He explained the distribution schedule and historical percentages implemented in 1965.
On compensation, Hill said state limits allow up to $150 per meeting, Reidsville’s board currently receives $50 per meeting (reduced from $150 in 2021) and requested an increase to about $100 per meeting to attract and retain qualified volunteer board members given the board’s responsibilities over a regulated $3.5 million annual business. Council discussed that the ABC board maintains its own budget and that appointments and terminations are council prerogatives. Council moved to increase compensation from $50 to $100 and approved the motion.
Provenance: Based on the ABC board presentation (SEG 191–SEG 259) and subsequent compensation discussion and vote (SEG 408–SEG 509).
