Hernando County School District food service honored for large increase in summer meals

Hernando County School District on June 9 recognized its Food and Nutrition Department, the 180 Cafe, for achieving the largest percentage increase in meals served during the 2025 Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services summer meal service program.
Holly Longo, director of Food and Nutrition Services, accepted the recognition on behalf of the department and credited the achievement to the contributions of staff who packed meals, delivered supplies, managed paperwork and coordinated feeding sites. Longo said the department served 73,162 breakfasts and lunches combined in 2024. (A June 2025 figure stated during the remarks appeared in the transcript as "22,13" and is unclear; the district did not provide a clarified number during the meeting.)
Longo said the district will begin non‑congregate feeding the next day at Brooksville Elementary and West Hernando Middle and described the program as first‑come, first‑served with per‑child meal allotments aligned to federal program rules. Jennifer Patrick, assistant director, joined Longo in presenting details and thanked staff for their work.
Board members praised the nutrition team and noted they would photograph the award recipients after the meeting. No board action was required; the recognition was ceremonial and intended to highlight the district’s summer feeding reach.
