Tazewell County Planning Commission approves revised agenda, permit and three land actions

The Tazewell County Planning Commission met April 9, 2026, in the Tazewell County Administration Building and approved a series of routine and project-specific actions, all by votes of 4 to 0 with Members Kyle Cruey and Eddy Brown absent.
The commission first approved a revised agenda following a motion by Vice‑Chairman Hayden Lyons and a second by Member Anthony Ramella. The panel then approved the January 8, 2026 reorganizational meeting minutes on a motion by Member Lance Wimmer and a second by Member Ramella.
On permit business, the commission approved Dandee’s Inc.’s Auto Salvage & Junkyard Permit Application, which the transcript records as filed January 20 and with required fees paid. The approval passed on a motion by Vice‑Chairman Lyons, seconded by Member Ramella.
On land‑use matters, the commission approved the division of parcel 132 A 0032 in Thompson Valley after hearing from Jon Looney of Appalachian Surveying Inc. County engineering staff noted that the house on the parcel has spring water and septic while the pasture being sold lacks water and sewer access; the commission approved the division with a variance allowing the split despite the absence of water and sewer access. The transcript records the variance as required and approved by a 4–0 vote.
Separately, Darrell Addison spoke on behalf of Adam Long regarding a plat in Claypool Hill; the applicant requested elimination of a lot so the property would be a single parcel with no planned development. Member Wimmer moved to approve the Adam Long property; the motion carried 4–0.
The commission also appointed an Orphan Roads Subcommittee (Chairman Robert “Bob” Moss, Member Anthony Ramella, with Vice‑Chairman Hayden Lyons as alternate) based on a recommendation from Kenneth Dunford Jr., Director of County Engineering, citing upcoming paving needs. Appointments to the Comprehensive Plan, Subdivision, and Capital Improvements subcommittees were tabled until the next regular meeting.
All recorded votes on these items were unanimous among the four members present. The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:13 PM; the next regular meeting is scheduled for May 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM in the Tazewell County Boardroom.
