Ferron tentatively approves budget, sets June 10 public hearing; city to pay full employee health premiums July 1

The Ferron City Council voted on May 13 to approve a tentative budget for fiscal 2026–27 and scheduled a public hearing on the tentative budget for June 10 at 7:00 p.m.
Mayor Trent Jackson explained that the tentative budget assumes two full-time staff and therefore does not include seasonal personnel. He said the city did not include funds to purchase a new truck in the tentative budget and that councilmembers should continue to look for options. Jackson also announced that, instead of a 3–4% cost-of-living adjustment, Ferron will pay the full premium for employee health insurance effective July 1, 2026.
Councilmember Ray Petersen moved to approve the tentative budget and set the public hearing for June 10; Councilmember Gerry Stotler seconded and the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. During discussion Petersen suggested reallocating $10,000 in C fund road maintenance to wages and noted the need to code certain weed-spray expenses to the C fund.
