Councilmembers said the trees have been falling in recent windstorms and that the removal work is intended to reduce risk to gravesites, visitors and nearby property. Councilmember Brown said he will contact the county to explore potential assistance toward the removal costs.
The motion authorized removal, stump work and site restoration as specified in Tolbert’s bid; the contract amount approved by the council was $84,000. The council did not specify a funding source during the motion and discussion noted possible county help would be pursued.
