Fitchburg approves one land-use change, re-refers another to Plan Commission

The Fitchburg Common Council on June 9 considered two minor amendments to the city's comprehensive plan: one was approved and the other was sent back to the Plan Commission for further review.

The council approved a future-land-use change on Ski Lane (Southdale neighborhood) moving the parcel from business designation to medium–high-density residential to accommodate a proposed workforce-ownership housing project. Chad Brecklin summarized that the approval is an early step in a multi-stage review and that the project must clear additional approvals before construction.

A separate proposal for a parcel at the southeast corner of Lacy Road and Fee Glenn sought to change a portion currently identified as mixed-use and low-density residential to medium–high-density residential for a townhome development. The developer revised the proposal in response to feedback; the council re-referred that item back to the Plan Commission for consideration at its June 16 meeting and told staff it should return to the council on June 23.

Both items were presented during public hearings, giving residents a chance to comment.
