Chippewa Lake council approves $152,794 in bills, addresses sinkhole payment and property complaints

The Village of Chippewa Lake council approved the revised January bills for payment totaling $152,794.32 at its Jan. 13 meeting and handled several local property and finance items.
Fiscal Officer Gary Harris reported the revised total bills for approval as $152,794.32; Alan Robbins moved to approve payment and the council voted 6 ayes, 0 nays. Harris also presented the December bank reconciliation and appropriations reports; motions to approve sign-off on both reports passed unanimously. He asked for a motion to publish the annual notice once the 2024 year-end financial reports are complete and to appoint the Fiscal Officer to receive record-retention training for the mayor and council; both motions passed 6-0. Harris reported account balances of $316,599.56 (primary checking), $203,576.77 (money market) and $111,608.00 (Star Ohio) for a combined total of $631,784.33.
On streets work, Bud (Lowell Hardesty) reported a sinkhole at 154 Brookshore related to a lateral leak on private property and moved to encumber $1,120 to pay CW Landscaping for work filling the hole; the motion passed 6 ayes, 0 nays. Council noted Rooter Rooter placed temporary stone and asked residents to report any settling until a permanent repair is made.
In public participation, Greg Stanislawski raised concerns about property conditions at 87 Longacre; Zoning Inspector Jim Brandenburg said he will investigate and Solicitor Allan Michelson said he will consult the prosecutors office. Michelson noted the Village has authority to do cleanup and place a lien on the property if warranted, but cautioned about limits on actions that can be taken on private property. Leslie Burns reported a similar issue on Rustic Rook and she and Bud will review zoning code provisions.
The council also authorized staff to complete a NOPEC sponsorship grant application for the Lions Club July 4 parade and scheduled a Records Committee meeting for Feb. 10 prior to the regular meeting.
