Work session: nine bids received for Mobile Fire Station No. 2; council moves several work-session items to next meeting

In work session staff reported nine bids were received for Mobile Fire Station No. 2 and the architect will forward a recommendation to USDA; council also moved grant-funding agreements, airport board appointments, plats, a concession-beverage contract and acceptance of a condemned lot (405 S. Alt Street) forward to the next council meeting for formal action.
During the council’s work session, staff reported that nine bidders responded to the request for Mobile Fire Station No. 2 construction, and the project architect is evaluating bids and will submit a recommendation to USDA for acceptance. Staff said that, if USDA accepts the architect’s recommendation, the project will be presented to council with a staff recommendation at a future meeting.
Separately staff presented a resolution to authorize annual grant funding and service agreements for longtime partner organizations—the Moberly Area Council on the Arts, the Senior Multi-Purpose Center and the Moberly Community Foundation—and noted one organization’s award increased by $1,000 tied to a donated-property agreement. Council agreed to move that resolution forward for formal vote at the next meeting.
Work-session items moved forward for the next council meeting included reappointments to the Airport Advisory Board (incumbents Dennis Snodgrass and Bill Stewart and applicant Skyler Frazier), two final plats (Canabel second edition, nine homes at 1200 East Logan Street, and Moberly Area Industrial Park Plat Two), and a concession beverage agreement where Pepsi was the sole bidder and offered a $3,000 annual credit plus product rebates.
Staff also recommended accepting a deed from the owner of a fire-damaged property at 405 South Alt Street to avoid additional legal costs; staff said the city’s tax bill on that parcel is $8,354.58, that demolition is complete, and accepting the deed will speed conversion of the lot to an infill housing opportunity. Council moved all those items forward for formal action at the next scheduled council meeting.
