Giddings reports record sales tax month; splashpad set to open May 22

During the May 11 meeting Interim City Manager Heather Garner reported that the city received $386,476 in sales tax receipts for the month, the largest single‑month total the city has received. Garner said $257,651 goes to the city and $128,825 to the Economic Development Corporation; she noted the previous high was $323,309 in January 2025.
Garner also reported the RED grant downtown plaza improvements are substantially complete and staff is working on grant closeout with the Texas Department of Agriculture. Finally, Garner said the city's splashpad is scheduled to open Friday, May 22, with daily hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Labor Day.
Garner reviewed upcoming meetings and the budget calendar for 2026–27; she said department budget worksheets will be distributed by the end of May, department head meetings will be in June, a draft budget will be presented July 13, and final adoption is scheduled for Aug. 10.
