The Giddings City Council voted May 11 to approve two separate alley sale items.
Interim City Manager Heather Garner said Fidencio and Antonia Luna have paid the initial fee and requested to purchase the alley adjoining 835 W. Crockett St.; staff reported there are no utilities in that alley and the applicant said purchase would support improved maintenance and access. Council approved the Luna request; the motion carried with aye votes from Councilmembers Casey, Janda, Muniz, Rinn and Dowell.
The council also considered a request from property owner Fay Birnbaum Airhart, who provided a survey and appraisal for the alley adjacent to 397 S. Harris St. Staff said no adjoining property owners requested purchase of halves of that alley; the appraisal valued the alley at $1,000. Council approved a $1,000 purchase price for Airhart for the 20' x 80' alley. The motion carried unanimously.
The approvals authorize staff to continue the sale process in accordance with city procedures; the motions did not include additional conditions beyond those required by city policy.
