Exeter Historical Society to hold Sweet Liberty Soiree on town’s 250th celebration

The Exeter Historical Society announced a fundraising event, the Sweet Liberty Soiree, to coincide with Exeter’s 250th anniversary celebration on July 11, a date the town observes as its Day of Independence. The event will be held at Fort Rock Farm and will include 14 to 15 themed tablescapes representing different historical eras, food and drink, and fireworks viewing from the lawn.
Speakers said proceeds will go toward updating the society’s lower-level exhibit space, which currently houses displays on local businesses, the town’s printing history, the Exeter Brass Band and the Robinson Female Seminary. Historical Society Curator Barbara Remick Kunis will give a short program about Ambrose Swasey, an engineer who grew up in Exeter and donated local landmarks including the Swasey bandstand and Swasey Parkway.
Organizers described the tablescapes as historically themed table settings—examples mentioned include a suffragette table in purple, gold and white and a 1922 Engineers Club Dinner tablescape featuring Ambrose Swasey.
