Councilmember Mchuan urged more outreach to local builders, saying, "I really can't stress enough that I don't feel like we are asking for participation from our local contractors and getting their feedback on these items." After discussion councilmembers agreed to delay action and to form an advisory-type group composed of local tradespeople to advise the council and present a chairperson who would report back to the council.
Council members discussed transparency and the desire to give contractors a voice without ceding final decision‑making authority. The motion to table the ordinance passed on a council vote; no new date for reconsideration was set. Councilmembers also linked the related fee‑schedule resolution for building and construction permits to the same stakeholder process and tabled that item as well.
Staff said they would work with council to define the advisory group's structure and to bring a report from the committee's chair when ready. The action pauses code changes until local input is gathered and reflected in any revised proposal.
