The Summit Public School District Board of Education on June 11 approved routine annual renewals, personnel appointments and finance transfers as part of a year‑end slate of business items.
Clerk Kathy Sarno announced an addendum adding Alexander Kemp as a high‑school social‑studies teacher, BA step salary $66,751, effective Sept. 2, 2026, replacing Wendy Donut. The board moved to approve new hires and personnel lists that included counselors, special education teachers, psychologists, inclusion aides and summer curriculum and remediation instructors. Roll‑call votes were held and motions carried on the superintendent’s report, minutes and grouped finance and operations items.
In personnel news, Superintendent Scott Huff announced the hiring of David Kowalski as the district’s next business administrator and board secretary; Huff summarized Kowalski’s background in school administration and said Kowalski will join the district next year. The operations committee also recommended proceeding with a set of annual renewals and contract renewals, and Pomptonian Food Service reported an operating surplus of approximately $97,000 through April 2026 that the district may use toward lunch‑aide salaries and equipment upgrades.
Board motions were approved by roll call on routine agenda sections including finance (items A–E), school board operations (A–H) and personnel (section 16). The board set committee meeting dates for August and other summer planning steps.
